MG Hector Bookings Stopped For The Time Being

• The brand is planning to ramp up production in the coming months.

MG Motor India has temporarily suspended bookings for the Hector as a result of garnering over 21,000 bookings since it opened on 4 June. The carmaker is stating that it wants to ensure customer satisfaction and to address the increasing demand, production will be ramped up slowly over the coming months.

The top variants, Smart and Sharp, garnered the most attention while the petrol variants accounted for over 50 per cent of the reservations. The DCT variant, meanwhile, is the most in demand, having attracted 70 per cent of the bookings till date. The mild-hybrid variant accounts for 15 per cent of these numbers. MG is planning to increase monthly production at its Halol facility by 3000 units starting from October. The brand will share the opening date for the next batch of bookings soon. 

The MG Hector is priced from Rs 12.18 lakh to 16.88 lakh (ex-showroom pan India) and is available in a total of four variants: Style, Super, Smart and Sharp. It comes with two engines: a 1.5-litre turbo petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel motor. The 1.5-litre petrol motor is good for  143PS of power and 250Nm of torque. It is also offered with a 48V mild-hybrid system which improves the fuel efficiency by 12 per cent. The 2.0-litre diesel motor, meanwhile, is the engine from the Jeep Compass, and puts out 170PS and 350Nm. While the petrol, mild-hybrid petrol and diesel come mated to a 6-speed manual, the 7-speed DCT can be had only with the petrol.

The Hector comes packed with features including a 10.4-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, i-SMART connected-car tech, panoramic sunroof, electric tailgate, 360-degree camera, front parking sensors and more. You can read all about them in detail here.

The Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500, Hyundai Creta, Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Compass are the Hector’s primary rivals.
