Two held for possessing ganja in Pune

PUNE: The Pune customs department has arrested two men and seized 165kgs of ganja packed in plastic bags near Dombarwadi toll naka at Alephata on Wednesday.
The Khed special court has sent Ankush Pandule, 25, a resident of Ashti in Beed district and Nitin Ambekar, 23, of Ulhasnagar in Thane district in customs custody remand till July 23.
The narcotics cell officials intercepted the SUV on suspicion of transporting ganja following a tip-off.

Joint customs commissioner Vaishali Patange said on Thursday, "A search conducted in the SUV led to the recovery of ganja. Pandule and Ambekar have confessed to the crime of procurement and transportation of ganja for sale at Badlapur in Thane district."
She said, "The ganja worth Rs 31 lakhs and the SUV worth Rs 22 lakhs has been seized for contravention of the provisions of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The narcotics cell is conducting investigations regarding supplier and receiver of the ganja based on the inputs given by the two men."
