Rains

While Mumbai is likely to see very little rains, weather forecasting experts said that interior Maharashtra can expect a good rainfall this week, which will be a major breather for the farmers.

According to IMD officials, these rains are a result of a low-pressure area being created due to a cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal. “We expect good rainfall across Marathwada and Vidarbha this week,” said an official.

DNA in its report on July 15 had highlighted how farmers in at least 24 of the 36 districts in the state may have to go in for re-sowing, if the dry spell continues beyond July 22. Most of these districts, mainly from Marathwada, Vidarbha and North Maharashtra have received scanty rainfall. In most of them, sowing has been below 30% while in some, farmers have yet to sow for want of rainfall.

Rajesh Kapadia a private weather forecaster good rains can be expected in several parts of Marathwada and Vidarbha on July 19 to 21, which are much needed given the current dry spell.
