The two-day joint exercise to assess the preparedness of personnel of various agencies and departments involved in coastal security along the coast commenced in the delta districts on Thursday.
As part of the exercise, the Coastal Security Group personal kept a watch on the movement of fishing vessels in sea and at the landing points, while the police conducted vehicle checks on the road and on the movement of ‘suspected’ persons on the land.
Officials from the Fisheries and Revenue departments also joined the exercise which was conducted in Mallipattinam and Sethubhavachatram areas in Thanjavur district.
During the exercise, awareness camps were also conducted for the fishermen on how to pass on the information about suspicious movement of vessels on sea and extend support to the law enforcing agencies in checking intrusion of terrorists through sea.
