BHATPARA: An assistant sub-inspector and a
BJP councillor were among five persons injured in bombings that continued unabated on Tuesday night in trouble-torn Bhatpara-Kankinara. This was despite a fresh
prohibitory order under CrPC Section 144 clamped on Monday evening.
ASI Debdeep Mukherjee suffered splinter injuries when a team from
Bhatpara police station was patrolling railway siding area no. 5 on Tuesday evening in search of local criminals involved in the recent spate of violence. Goons hurled bombs twice at the patrolling cops. Mukherjee was admitted to a nursing home in Barrackpore.
Gita Devi Jadav, BJP councillor of ward 12 in Bhatpara municipality, too was injured after goons hurled bombs at her Kalabagan home on Tuesday night. “It was around 10.30pm when we were about to go to sleep after dinner that we heard an explosion outside. As I stepped out, the goons hurled another bomb at my house. The splinters hit my shoulder and right thigh. I had to be hospitalized,” she said.
In another bombing at Kankinara’s Baruipara late on Tuesday, three residents suffered severe splinter injuries. The three are undergoing treatment in Bhatpara State General Hospital.
A senior police officer of Barrackpore Commissionerate said: “The situation is under control now. No untoward incident was reported on Wednesday.” No one has been arrested so far.
