WARREN, RI — Common Fence Music and Hope & Main announce that they will be presenting drumming ensemble Kalfou on Sunday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This performance is the second in a series of free events hosted by the partnering organizations at Hope & Main’s Schoolyard Market, 691 Main St. The series is held every second-to-last Sunday of the month, June-Sept. The market will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., while live music and activities will be presented from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The series features a diverse range of talented acts from Rhode Island and Massachusetts alongside Hope & Main’s eclectic array of member businesses, local farmers and artisans. Adults are invited to enjoy brunch beverages in the beer garden while kids build their own instruments in the family craft tent. Led by internationally-educated percussionist Kera Washington, Kalfou bridges cultures, generations, and continents with captivating rhythm and song of the African-diaspora. Reconnecting Haitian music, Jamaican roots reggae, Afro-Brazilian samba, Afro-Cuban son, West African highlife, and African American spirituals, blues, jazz and neo soul, Kalfou honors its influences while creating an original sound. Also performing is the Barrington-based teen ensemble The B-Town 5. While individually gifted, these four friends love inspiring audiences with the collaborative group dynamic they bring to small combo jazz. Mining the standards while staying on the cutting edge of the modern sound, The B-Town 5 plays an eclectic mix of bop, latin, ballads & avant garde that will impress even the most seasoned jazz fan.

Visitors to the event will be able to enjoy this fun, quality entertainment while sampling delicious food items created by some of Hope & Main’s featured members. For the morning snacker, Sinobox Pastry and Bellichi’s Best will be selling their unique baked goods. Local favorite Borealis Coffee will be pouring their own small-batch roasted hot and cold brew while Culture Tree Kombucha will be serving their 100% organic and honey-based beverages. For the lunch crowd, Minymeals will be serving up their fresh, healthy and creatively prepared Asian fusion dishes, while Cultro will be lighting their wood-fired barbecue and dishing out Latin American cuisine. And don’t forget to celebrate National Ice Cream Day by visiting the sundae bar, featuring toppings from other Hope & Main members! Sacred Cow Granola, Black Leaf Tea Co. and Source Fire are among the other vendors that will be selling their products prepared in the Hope & Main kitchens.
