Wanted in Ambala murder case, gangster killed in UP

Ravinder, alias Kalia
AMBALA: Meerut police on Tuesday gunned down notorious gangster Ravinder, alias Kalia, of Hisar district who was wanted by Ambala police in Randhir Singh murder case of May 2018.
“Kalia and his accomplice Amit, alias Sheru, of UP looted an SUV in the jurisdiction of Daurala police station in Meerut district on Tuesday when they were killed in a retaliatory fire,” the UP police tweeted on Tuesday.
Ambala police had been on the lookout for Kalia in the murder of Randhir Singh, a trader of Mahuwa Kheri village in Ambala district, since August 2018 after the arrest of co-accused Vikas of Baghpat district in UP. Naraingarh DSP Amit Kumar Bhatia said, “Vikas was arrested by Naraingarh CIA in August 2018 for Randhir’s murder. During his police remand, arms in large quantity, including a bulletproof jacket, were recovered from his possession. Those were hidden in an apartment in Sohna of Gurugram. Vikas revealed that Kalia was also involved in the murder. We also found Vikas’s involvement in Muzaffarpur riots of 2013.”
Ambala superintendent of police (SP) Abhishek Jorwal also confirmed Kalia’s involvement. He said, “Kalia was wanted in Randhir murder case as he was with Vikas Baghpat. Apart from Vikas, accused Somit, Dinkar, Mohit and Rajwinder of Mahuwa Kheri in Ambala district were arrested by our teams. Their other three accomplices, Kalia of Hisar, Mohit Mental of Mahuwa Kheri and Akshay of Baghpat, were on the run. Out of three, Kalia has now been killed in the UP encounter. Our CIA team has been sent to Meerut for obtaining information about Kalia.”
Three murders, a cricket match and revenge
The case involves a string of three murders, including two of prime witnesses. All deceased belonged to Mahuwa Kheri village under Naraingarh police station of Ambala district. The main accused involved in all three murders is Mohit, alias Mental, also of Mahuwa Kheri.
As per villagers, in August 2013, a cricket tournament was organized in Mahuwa Kheri where Mohit Mental and villager Gurdeep indulged in a scuffle following a dispute related to the result of the match. The matter was resolved, but Mohit felt insulted and to avenge it, he, along with his accomplices, Somit, Rajwinder, Dinkar, and one more, stabbed Gurdeep in October 2013. Gurdeep succumbed to his injuries. All five accused were booked.

Randhir of Mahuwa Kheri became a prime witness in Gurdeep’s murder. In 2016, a district court awarded life imprisonment to the five. In 2018, the accused got bail from the high court and on coming out they conspired to murder Randhir as well. Ambala police said, “Mohit Mental along with his five accomplices contacted Vikas of Baghpat and Kalia of Hisar for committing the murder. On May 13, 2018, multiple bullets were fired at Randhir when he was coming home in his car after dropping his family at Radha Soami Satsang Bhawan in Nakhrauli village. Since then Mohit Mental is wanted.”
Puran Chand of Mahuwa Kheri became an eyewitness of Randhir murder. On May 13, 2018, on the complaint of Puran Chand, five accused were booked at Naraingarh police station. On July 2, main accused Mohit Mental along with his accomplices again conspired and shot dead Puran Chand while he was sleeping in the veranda of his house in Mahuwa Kheri. Police booked 12 accused, including Mohit Mental, his accomplices and his mother Memta. On July 8, Ambala police arrested Aman, Vishal and Memta for criminal conspiracy, but the main accused is still at large.
