Six killed as van falls into canal in Tamil Nadu

MADURAI: Six people, including a three-month-old baby, died when a van they were travelling in plunged from a culvert into a canal near Seidhunganallur in Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu in the early hours of Thursday. Eleven people, who suffered injuries, were rushed to a hospital.
The deceased have been identified as K Packialakshmi, 46, R Muthulakshmi, 65, S Jagatheeswaran, 12, G Nithish, 4,(all from Thiruthangal in Virudhunagar district) and K Arunachalapandi, 35, and three-month-old Anish Pandi from Srivilliputhur in Virudhunagar.

According to police, a group of people boarded the van late on Wednesday night to reach Thiruchendur. Driver of the van lost control when the vehicle reached Karungulam following which it plunged into the canal.
The Seidhungannalur police registered a case.
