To drive away fear of citizens, cop brings goons to face them

Nagpur: In a bid to instil fear among criminals and assure public of law and order, Ganeshpeth police on Wednesday nabbed two goons and paraded them in public. The two arrested were part of a gang that had gone on a looting spree on Tuesday and damaged 22 vehicles between Indora and Santra Market.
In the early hours of Tuesday, at least 10 goons on five bikes had looted several passersby. The goons had also damaged 22 vehicles. The accused, carrying swords and knives, had barged into a hotel owned by Hazar Hussain alias Shanu Salim. One of the miscreants Faizan Khan claimed he is ‘don’ of the area and looted Rs 3,000 from the cash counter after ransacking the hotel and damaging furniture worth Rs 40,000.
Ganeshpeth cops, who earlier faced flak for their inaction on Tuesday, registered a case of dacoity against five goons identified as Faizan Khan, Thakur, Mohd Shakil Ali, Ritik Gour and Raj Kalya alias Faizan Khan.

Those arrested have been identified as Faizan Khan, an externee, and Ajay alias Tantu Thakur, both having several offences registered against them. Cops produced the accused before a court on Wednesday and procured their PCR till July 20. The accused have been booked under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Arms Act.
The Wednesday’s action was carried out under the supervision of DCP Rahul Maknikar. Speaking to TOI, Maknikar said, “After arresting the goons, we had taken them to the spot to reconstruct the scene. On seeing the culprits in police custody, the residents started gathering there. I assured the residents of their safety which drove away fear from their minds. The ‘goons parade’ had instant result with several of the victims started coming forward to register their grievances.
