CHENNAI: An AIADMK worker and a police officer are in trouble for allowing don Varichiyur Selvam, allegedly holding a VVIP pass, to attending the Athi Varadar festival event at the Devarajaswamy temple in Kancheepuram. State intelligence officials have been asked to inquire into the incident and submit a report to higher officials.
On Tuesday morning, Varichiyur Selvam along with five others visited the Devarajaswamy temple for worshipping the deity. Selvam was allowed to sit near the pedestal where Athi Varadar is kept and the general public is allowed to worship.

Many people recorded videos of Selvam getting VVIP treatment, with the footage later going viral on social media, attracting intense scrutiny. After information about his visit reached senior police officers, they ordered an inquiry on who brought Selvam to the temple and who gave him the donor pass.
State intelligence officials have gathered information about Selvam’s close aide, who allegedly provided the donor pass for his visit to the temple. A police officer said, “Selvam collected the VVIP donor pass from an AIADMK worker and a police officer also assisted him.” Police have conducted an inquiry and a report will be submitted soon before the top brass.
