Vadodara: In Macau, an exhibition is drawing eyeballs of millions of people visiting the venue. And among the scores of artworks, three exquisite ceramic artworks prepared by an Indian have been getting lots of appreciation. Vinod Daroz, a Barodian, is the only Indian artist who have been invited to the exhibition titled ‘All That’s Gold Does Glitters’ which was inaugurated on June 8.
“Few months ago, I got a call from Caroline Cheng who has curated the exhibition. She invited me to participate in the exhibition that has been jointly organized by the Macau government and Sands China. It is a very prestigious exhibition wherein 28 artists from 13 countries have been invited. I am the only one from India,” Daroz told TOI.
Daroz prepared nine ceramic artworks out of which he chose three to display at the venue in Macau. “I chose the theme of ‘Samudra Manthan’ from Bhagvat Purana and also used real gold while crafting the artworks. My artworks are now in display in the exhibition that will be conclude in August,” he said.
“Gold is the central theme of this exhibition. Born in a goldsmith’s family and working with gold have become an integral part of my upbringing. To me, the softness and the malleability of the metal corresponds to that of clay. In Indian culture, gold is associated with not just material possessions, but is sacred as it is considered to be a form of Goddess Laxmi,” said Daroz who has participated in the exhibition for the first time.
