Miscreants attempted to smuggle sandalwood trees from two houses in the city on Tuesday night and in the early hours of Wednesday.
In one of the incidents, the miscreants attacked the security guard who foiled the smuggling attempt.
In the first incident, a three-member gang felled a sandalwood tree on the premises of the house of a jeweller at Ramnagar. The police said that the incident took place around 2.30 a.m. on Wednesday.
The police also said that the men, who had covered their faces with mask, attacked the security guard of the house Duraisamy, who foiled their attempt.
The 69-year-old security guard suffered injuries in left hand.
The Kattoor police have registered a case and are investigating.
In the second incident, unknown persons attempted to cut a sandalwood tree on the premises of a house at Chinnammal Street at Saibaba Colony late on Tuesday.
The police said that the house owner Thamaraikannan foiled the attempt after he heard sounds of felling the tree.
The police suspect that same men are involved in both incidents.
