MUMBAI: In a first,
Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Mumbai Central arrested 22 taxi drivers, who were later released by a railway magistrate after imposing a fine of Rs 300 each. A senior
RPF official said, “We are now taking cognizance of complaints on errant taxi drivers who refuse to ply by meter or pre-paid chart. Usually, such action is taken by the RTO or traffic police.”
An RPF inspector received a call from a passenger that a taxi driver was demanding Rs700 to ply to Ghatkopar on Monday. RPF acted against drivers who block the main carriageway outside the station for hours in search of lucrative fares too.
