HYDERABAD: A 28-year-old woman consumed an unknown poison before making her two sons have a soft drink, laced with the same poison, at their house in Parsigutta on Tuesday. The woman died and one of the boys is in a critical condition.
The deceased was Anjali, whose husband Prasad is a painter from Parsigutta. Anjali was a teacher at a private school in Ram Nagar. Anjali and Prasad have two sons—Anirudh, 10, and Amrutej, 8.
“Prasad is an alcoholic. As he was not taking care of the family and had refused to pay the children’s school fee, Anjali quarreled with him. Alleging that Prasad was physically and mentally torturing her, Anjali filed a domestic harassment complaint against him at Begumpet women’s police station. In June 2019, a case was booked under section 498A of the IPC,” Chilakalguda SI A Varunkanth Reddy said.
After the case was registered, Anjali and Prasad attended counselling sessions before the police. On Tuesday, the couple was supposed to attend a counselling session but Anjali did not go. She had not sent her children to school either.

“Anjali consumed some unknown pills between 1pm and 2pm. She mixed the poison in a soft drink and made her sons drink it. After consuming the poison, Anjali and Amrutej fell unconscious. But Anirudh vomited the entire drink, after which he went to the landlord Rajesh and informed him about his mother and brother. Rajesh shifted Anjali and her two sons to nearby hospital. Anjali died while undergoing treatment, but Anirudh is out of danger and Amrutej’s condition is critical,” the SI said.
Police have booked a case under sections 307, 306 and 498A of IPC.
