Chaos and panic ensued after the mishap at JDA Circle on Tuesday amid mangled remains of vehicles
JAIPUR: Two brothers were killed and at least four others were critically injured after a speeding car ploughed into vehicles near JDA Circle on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident, captured by a police control room’s CCTV showed a speeding white car ploughing through the vehicles waiting under red light at the signal. The pedestrians and bike drivers were flung over several metres high in the air before they fell on the road.
Dr Puneet Parashar (30) and his younger brother Vivek Parashar (28) were killed on the spot, while at least four others have sustained critical injuries. Meetha Lal (22) a native of Tonk district told TOI that he was crossing the road when a vehicle hit him. “I was tossed up several feet high in the air. When I crashed on the road I had fallen unconscious. I slowly opened my eyes and found a huge commotion around me, but I felt as if I had turned deaf,” he said. Meetha was discharged from the hospital after initial treatment.
The accident spot bore the signs of the tragic accident that took place at 4.30pm. The broken parts of the damaged vehicles, shredded helmets and torn pieces of clothes, some soaked in blood were scattered across the JDA Circle area. The blood-splattered sandals and shoes of the two victims indicated the magnitude of the crash.
TOI journalist Ashish Sen’s car was severely damaged in the accident as the impact caused the car to turn 90 degree as it crashed into the divider. He had a narrow escape, with injuries.

DCP (Traffic) Rahul Prakash said that the car driver Virendra Jain was caught by the police. “Jain took a turn in his car from University crossing and headed towards JDA Circle. Initially, his speed was minimal, but he accelerated all of a sudden. He rammed straight into the bike-borne youths who died on the spot,” he said. Both Puneet and Vivek were thrown up several feet into the air. “Jain had rammed straight into their bike. The collision was so intense that the duo flung across three vehicles and fell on the road,” Prakash said, adding that a medical test of the accused will be conducted to check if he was driving under influence of alcohol.
Police have booked Jain under Section 304A (causing death by negligence). Deceased’s father Raj Kumar Parashar said, “Both my sons were wearing helmets and always drove properly. They had to pay the price of somebody else’s negligence.”
