Burglars make away with 32 sovereigns

Tirupur: After the two recent burglaries in Pongalur, 32 sovereigns of gold and other valuables were burgled from another house in the same locality on Tuesday.
K Veeramuthu resides at Murugan Nagar near Pongalur with his wife Kalamani, son Vignesh and daughter-in-law Brindha. While Veeramuthu works in a poultry farm in Palladam, Vignesh and Brindha are working in Coimbatore, a police officer said.
While Kalamani went to their farm near Pollachi, the other three went to work. When Veeramuthu returned home on Tuesday evening, he found front door broken open. He found 32 sovereigns of gold and silver articles stolen from the house.
The Avinashipalayam police registered a case. A few weeks ago, burglaries were reported at ALR Nagar and SAP Residency near Pongalur. The continuous crimes have gripped fear among the residents who urged that the police vigil should be increased.
In another case, 12 sovereigns of gold were robbed from a locked house of S Anusiya on NMS Marakadai lane near Old bus stand in the city. The Tirupur south police have registered a case.

Recently, 70 sovereigns of gold were burgled from a house of a government doctor at Salaipalayam near Avinashi. “Preliminary investigations found that in the Avinashi case, the residents have brought the valuables from a bank locker. The burglary could have been done by persons who watched their movements closely. It was unfortunate that even when it was affordable, the people were not installing CCTV cameras, which would definitely create fear among criminals or would act as good evidence,” said a police officer from Avinashi.
A senior police official said, “We were trying to find whether the burglaries have connection. We have been arresting the accused in many burglaries in recent past. Two accused who were found to be involved in such cases were detained under the Goondas Act .”
