‘Although vast majority of IATO membership do outbound also, we haven’t been looking into outbound and talking about it proactively so far. In the changed scenario, we felt that it is better to speak about bilateral travel rather than pitching and promoting one-way traffic,” said Rajesh Mudgill, Hony. Secretary, IATO. Nonetheless, he explained that this would not weaken the core purpose of endorsing India and the inbound travel into the country.

Vishal Yadav will lead the empowered committee for outbound in the IATO. While speaking to TravelBiz Monitor, Yadav explained that the Forum will aim on “enhancing the knowledge” of membership who are keen on understanding the nuances of outbound business, about destinations and products. ‘There is no genuine forum which is registered and recognised by Department of Tourism (DoT) for outbound.  When IATO membership are registered with DoT, there will be certain level of trust built into it when we discuss business mutually at bilateral forums,’ he said.

Yadav mentioned that the proposal is to arrange bi-monthly outbound forums where multiple NTOs will be requested to showcase their destinations and products to members. “We are planning to hold the first meeting in the second week of August,” he added.
