Skimmer found in nationalised bank’s ATM in Chennai

CHENNAI: A skimmer was found in an ATM of a nationalised bank at Ayanavaram here on Wednesday. A skimmer is a card reader that collects card numbers and PIN fraudulently.
Police said Gopi Krishnan, 45, who works in a private company, was using the ATM in the morning. His card got stuck in the machine’s card slot. When he pulled it with force, a tiny device tumbled out of it.
Gopi and other ATM users alerted police. Police, who checked CCTV footages, found two men installing a skimmer in the ATM under the pretext of withdrawing cash.
The Central Crime Branch police are investigating.
