2 killed after truck, ambulance collide

Mangaluru: A woman and her daughter were killed in a head-on collision between an ambulance and a goods truck, at Netlamudnur under the Vittal police station limits on Tuesday night.

The deceased were accompanying a family member to hospital. According to police, the victims are Parvathi, 76, and her daughter Seshamma, 45, who were residents of Sullia. The ambulance was taking Parvathi’s husband Vama Nayak to a hospital in Mangaluru. Vama Nayak was suffering from age-related problems, and was in need of emergency medical help.

When the ambulance reached Netlamudnur around 10.45 pm, a goods truck moving towards Puttur, while taking a turn, collided with the ambulance.
Due to the collision, the ambulance fell into a gutter. The two deceased were killed on the spot, while three others were grievously injured. They are being treated at a private hospital in Puttur. A case has been registered at the Vittal police station in this regard.
