New Delhi: The much-delayed
Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill is the latest legislation to draw the Opposition’s ire with Trinamool Congress now planning to move amendments to the Bill in Parliament.
Terming the Bill as “anti federal structure”, Trinamool Congress has decided to oppose the Bill in both Houses of Parliament.
Trinamool Congress parliamentary party party leader in
Rajya Sabha Derek O’ Brien said, “The party will oppose the Bill.
The whole architecture of the Bill is wrong. It is completely against the federal structure.” Road transport and highways minister
Nitin Gadkari had introduced the Bill in
Lok Sabha on Monday. He had tried to convince the Opposition that the legislation does not infringe on the right of the states to choose. “Even if the minister has said that the states would have the right to choose, we don’t see anything in the Bill that convinces us,” said Derek O’Brien.
