Jaipur: Sanitation hit as waste collection firm goes on strike

A pile of garbage in the city
JAIPUR: Citizens of Jaipur faced inconvenience as the garbage collecting firm BVG Company went on strike on Wednesday due to non-payment of money by the JMC.
The strike though called off in the afternoon with BVG promising to send vehicles in the evening but this raised question about the sanitation condition of the city.
Manager of BVG Company Anand said, “Most of our cheques are not cleared and JMC has to pay us more than Rs 110 crore. We have been working hard for the sanitation of the city but they should at least clear our dues. JMC has given assurance to us to clear our remaining amount. Our vehicles will run on time from tomorrow onwards,” said Anand.

Amber ward councillor said that garbage collection vehicles are not coming to his wards. “Garbage depots are back in the city and there are places where vehicles are not visiting. The condition of sanitation facility is pathetic,” said a councillor.
An official on condition of anonymity said, “BVG Company has reduced the number of vehicles in the city that has even affected the garbage condition. The tussle between the two are growing. We have received many complaints that BVG is not collecting garbage from the houses but from depots to complete its target. Things will take some time to solve.”
