Will England complete the 'double' at the Rugby World Cup?

2019-07-16 11:10

Cape Town - England are the 2019 Cricket World Cup champions having beaten New Zealand in an unforgettable final at Lord's last Sunday.

Will the same two countries meet in the Rugby World Cup final later this year? Will this time the bounce of the ball favour the All Blacks?

The pressure is certainly now squarely on Eddie Jones' England rugby side as they look to make it a 'double' in Japan later this year.

Following their Cricket World Cup victory, England became the first country to win all three 'big' sporting World Cups after their Soccer (1966) and Rugby (2003) successes.

For England and the All Blacks to meet in the final in Yokohama on Saturday, November 2, there may need to be a few shocks and upsets along the way.

England have been drawn in Pool C which has been termed the 'Pool of Death', alongside France, Argentina, USA and Tonga.

Only two of those nations can progress to the quarter-final stage.

England famously failed to reach the playoff rounds at the last World Cup in 2015 - which they hosted.

Leading SA bookmakers Sportingbet have installed England as 4/1 second-favourites to lift the Webb Ellis Cup.

No surprise that New Zealand, searching for a hat-trick of World Cup triumphs - and fourth overall - are tournament favourites at 11/10.

Those two are followed by Ireland (5/1), South Africa and Wales (both 7/1), Australia (12/1) and France (25/1).
