High-Performance Cadillac CT4- And CT5-V Could Use Carryover Engines

Cadillac teased the high-performance versions of the CT4- and CT5-V last month, and Motor Trend’s Jonny Lieberman is now suggesting they’ll be powered by a couple of familiar engines.

As noticed by GM Authority, Lieberman made an Instagram post where he said the hotter CT5-V will use the same supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that was found in the CTS-V. The engine produced 640 hp (477 kW / 649 PS) and 630 lb-ft (853 Nm) of torque, but it could receive a modest boost for duty in the high-performance CT5.

Nothing is official, but he suggested the model could have between 650 hp (485 kW / 659 PS) and 670 hp (500 kW / 679 PS). That’s less than the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody, but it would make the model more powerful than the BMW M5 Competition and Mercedes-AMG E63 S. The extra power could also enable the car to be faster than its predecessor which could accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.7 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 200 mph (322 km/h).

Likewise, the hot CT4-V could be offered with the ATS-V’s twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 that produced 464 hp (346 kW / 470 PS) and 445 lb-ft (603 Nm) of torque. It remains unclear if that engine will also be upgraded, but the powertrain allowed the ATS-V to rocket from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.8 seconds. The car could also hit a top speed of 189 mph (304 km/h).

While rumors had suggested the high-performance models could be called the Blackwing, they both lack the twin-turbo 4.2-liter Blackwing V8 engine. As a result, they will reportedly eschew that moniker.

That sounds pretty logical and it appears both models will be offered with an automatic and manual transmission.
