MUMBAI: The
Mumbai traffic police issued an
e-challan to Mayor
Vishwanath Mahadeshwar's official vehicle after it was found parked in a no-parking zone at Andheri East on Saturday. Mahadeshwar was visiting a restaurant at Koldongri and his official car was parked on the street outside the restaurant right under a no-parking sign.
"We had received a phone call about the mayor's vehicle parked under a no-parking sign at Koldongari. But when we sent a traffic policeman to the spot, the vehicle wasn't found. It had probably left. We then communicated the information to the traffic police headquarters at
Worli which monitors footage from cameras put up on streets," said an officer from the Sahar traffic police post. "We have issued an e-challan against the mayor's official vehicle," confirmed joint commissioner Madhukar Pandey.
The BMC has been facing a lot of ire from citizens after it enhanced fines for vehicles found parked within a 500 metre radius of Public Parking Lots. The fines range from Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 depending on the type of vehicle. The mayor's act, during the fines controversy, sparked angry reactions on
Twitter on Monday. "As usual, the driver of the vehicle will be blamed," pointed out a netizen.
