PANAJI: An Ahmedabad-bound flight made an emergency landing at Goa International Airport on Monday after the A320 aircraft suffered a mid-air malfunction in its right engine, airport sources said. The aircraft was flying over the Sindhudurg coast when the onboard systems alerted the flight crew of the 'technical glitch'.
The flight had 180 passengers on board, who are all safe, sources said.
IndiGo flight 6E from Goa to Ahmedabad landed at Goa International Airport after it turned around and sought priority landing under emergency protocol. After the flight landed safely, the 180 passengers were disembarked. The aircraft is under examination, sources said.
"The flight took off at 3.50pm from Goa for Ahmedabad with 180 passengers. Around 200km into the flight, the pilot noticed a malfunction alert in the right engine," said a source at Goa airport. The Air Traffic Control at Goa Airport were immediately alerted and the commander of the aircraft sought an emergency landing.
"The flight landed safely at 4.45pm. As per procedure, the director general of civil aviation (DGCA) has been informed about the incident," said an official. Sources said that the flight logs will be shared with DGCA.
IndiGo technicians examined the aircraft and the A320 remained grounded at a remote bay after flight engineers deemed it unsafe to fly.

"IndiGo accommodated the passengers on another aircraft and ferried the passengers to their destination. The aircraft is here," said another source.
Just a fortnight earlier, another IndiGo flight heading for Jaipur suffered a mid-air scare after the pilots suspected that oil was leaking from one of the engines.
