Carcasses of seven more animals - including three one-horned
rhinos and an elephant - were recovered from the
Kaziranga National Park (KNP) on Tuesday, taking the death toll of animals in this year's flood to 30.
While 90% of the 430sqkm area of KNP is still inundated, the water level receded by 30cm on Tuesday. The water level rose above three feet at many places inside the park on Monday and 169 of 199 remain flooded, prompting authorities to shift 22 camps to safer locations. With the slight drop in water level, carcasses of animals have started surfacing.
