Vadodara: Two teachers from M S University’s faculty of performing arts have been selected for the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar by the Sangeet Natak Akademi – the apex body of performing arts in the country.
Dr Pramod Chavan, assistant professor with the department of dramatics and Durgesh Gangani, teaching assistant in the department of dance are amongst the 32 selected artists who will be conferred the national award for the year 2018.
The national academy of music, dance and drama decided to confer the awards to the young talents who have made their mark in their respective fields during its general council meeting recently held at Guwahati, Assam.
While Chavan will be conferred the award in the field of theatre direction, Gangani will be conferred the award in the field of dance (kathak).
The Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar is conferred to artists who are below the age of 40 years. It was introduced in the year 2006 with the objective of identifying and encouraging outstanding young talents in diverse fields of performing arts and giving them national recognition early in their life, so that they may work with greater commitment and dedication in their chosen fields.
Across the country, there are seven recipients in the field of theatre and eight recipients each in the field of music, dance and traditional/folk/tribal music/dance/theatre and puppetry combined.
The award carries a prize money of Rs 25,000 and will be presented by the chairman of the Sangeet Natak Akademi in a special ceremony.
