Third police officer in two weeks on assault charges
A police officer has been charged with three counts of assault over an incident said to have happened while he was on duty.
Professional Standards Command charged the sergeant after an internal investigation, Victoria Police said in a statement on Tuesday.
The statement did not provide detail of the alleged offending.
The policeman, from the western region, is to appear in court at a later date.
He is the third Victoria Police officer to be charged in two weeks.
Last Wednesday, a senior constable from the southern metro region was charged with multiple counts of sexual assault.
He was suspended following a Professional Standards investigation into an incident last December.
And the week before, a senior officer was charged with three counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual exposure in a public place. The senior sergeant, who is from a specialist unit, was suspended with pay.
The two officers, charged on unrelated incidents, are also due to face court at later dates.
