State to move SC over MCI’s decision to disallow start of H’bag medical college: Chandravanshi

Hazaribag: State health minister Ramchandra Chandravanshi on Monday said the state government will move a plea before the Supreme Court on Tuesday to challenge the decision of Medical Council of India (MCI) to disallow commencement of academic session at the newly built medical college in Hazaribag from this session.
Moreover, the state government had also sent proposals to the MCI seeking permission to start classes for 50 MBBS seats in each of the new colleges in Daltonganj and Dumka but was rejected in June, citing inadequate infrastructure.
Expressing dissatisfaction with MCI’s decision in the Hazaribag case, Chandravanshi, on the sidelines of an inauguration of a private super speciality hospital, said, “We hoped to start Hazaribag medical college this month but didn’t get the MCI nod despite having 90% infrastructure ready. The rest is under progress of being readied. On the other hand, I am surprised that MCI gave permission for AIIMS, Deoghar, where infrastructure facilities are very little in comparison with the medical college in Hazaribag. The state government will challenge this decision in SC. I am visiting New Delhi on Tuesday to move the case.”
While the college building and hostel facilities are ready, work on a 500-bedded hospital building is currently underway. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had formally inaugurated the medical college during his visit to Hazaribag in February.

Inaugurating the 50-bed private super speciality centre, Life Care Hospital, Chandravanshi said new health centres would be good for people of the region. He advocated that the hospital authorities should not only focus on commercial aspects but should also focus on providing better facilities to the poor at reasonable cost.
Local MLA Manish Jaiswal too was present. “This hospital is closer to villages of Katkumsandi and Pelawal which will benefit people,” he said.
