Eviction drive in Steel City

Jamshedpur: The district administration on Monday carried out an eviction drive on the premise of THE old court complex near the district collectorate building, adjacent to Jubilee Park under Bistupur police station, by removing over 100 unauthorized shops. The drive was carried out with prior intimation to the shop owners when the district administration made a public announcement before July 15, asking the owners to remove their belongings before the eviction takes place.
A large number of vendors, demanding their rehabilitation, made a bid to stop the eviction drive but heavy deployment of police foiled their attempts. “We have been earning our livelihood by running our shops here for decades. We request the administration to ensure we get a dedicated place to operate our business in an authorized manner,” said typist Santosh Bharatia, whose shop was demolished.
