Bihar: Floodwaters enter Forbesganj town

ARARIA: Floodwaters entered several houses in villages under Narpatganj, Sikti, Kursakanta and Kuwari blocks in Araria district on Sunday. Even Forbesganj and Araria towns came under floodwaters.
The famous Lord Shiva temple at Madanpur Bazar, 15km from here, came under waist-deep water. The swollen Bakra river damaged the road between Pipra Bijwar and Dharamganj, virtually cutting off the locals from rest of the world.
Several villages under Rahatmina, Sorgaon, Lakshmipur, Jagirprasi and Sikti gram panchayats were affected by floods. The eight villages of Sikti block, including Ramnagar, Belwadi, Pothia and Jamuwa, were worst affected.
The floodwaters also entered platform number 2 of Jogbani railway station, forcing the railways to stop all Jogbani-bound trains at Forbesganj.
The floodwater was flowing at least 2-feet high on national highway diversions near Bhangiya and Boria, submerging standing crops on hundreds of acres of land. The floodwaters of the Parman river entered Kochgama, Bhimsena and Mushahari Tola villages, damaging crops spread in an area of about 200 hectares. Forbesganj SDO Rabi Prakash visited the flood-hit areas on Sunday to take stock of situation.
Araria DM Baidyanath Yadav has ordered suspension of vehicular movement on NH-327 E near Boria. Heavy vehicles have been barred from using the Beli bridge.
The embankment of the Noona river near Pararia village under Sikti block was also damaged. All rivers, such as the Bakra, the Parman, the Barjan, the Lohandra, the Masna and the Noon in Aria district were flowing above danger mark on Sunday.

The floodwater has also damaged road between Forbesganj and Kursakanta, affecting hundreds of people.
All the circle officers have been put on high alert in the district. The NDRF team from Patna is expected to reach the district on Monday, the DM said.
