Pimpri: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which has accepted the resignation of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Leader of Opposition Datta Sane, will soon announce the name of a new corporator to the vacant post. Pimpri Chinchwad NCP President Sanjog Waghere has submitted a list of three party leaders to the party leadership.

Senior corporator Nana Kate, former mayor Vaishali Ghodekar and Javed Shaikh are the leaders whose names have been recommended. Among them, Kate is a strong contender for the post.

NCP leader and former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar is likely to announce the name of the new leader of the Opposition at the party’s meeting to be held here on Thursday (July 18). The NCP, which lost power in the civic body to the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2017 elections, has decided to rotate the post of the leader of Opposition among its corporators.

Before quitting his post, Sane had urged the party leaders to extend his term in view of the forthcoming State Assembly elections. Sane is a strong claimant for the Nationalist Congress Party ticket in Bhosari Assembly constituency.
