PATNA: Students taking state civil services examination conducted by Bihar public service commission (BPSC) on Sunday were set aback after a question asked them to critically examine the role of governor asking whether he was a mere ‘puppet’.
The Hindi version of the question had used the term ‘kathputli’ for it.
This question was asked in BPSC’s 64th mains examination held on Sunday and it was under general studies paper-II sub-head. Around 18500 students had taken up this examination.
BPSC, an autonomous body, as well as state government landed into soup soon after the question went viral on social media.
State education minister Krishnandan Prasad Verma while talking to a section of media accepted such words should not be used for a person sitting on respected position. "We will check as to in which situation this happened," Verma said.

Realizing its mistake, BPSC released a press statement on Monday and regretted for it. "The question regarding a person holding constitutional post, had been asked in a wrong way. The person who had set the question had been blacklisted and showcase had been initiated against him," read the statement signed by BPSC’s joint secretary-cum-examination controller Amrendra Kumar.
Opposition rapped the state government as well as the commission over the issue. Congress MLC Prem Chandra Mishra said the commission was in wrong hands and probe should be done. “This is an eye opener as to what kind of people are setting the questions. On July 11 I had raised a question in Bihar Legislative Council against BPSC which had given wrong answers of 15 questions in preliminary examination. Students who ticked wrong answers were qualified,” Mishra said.
