UP: Man beaten up, tonsured, paraded for trying to meet married girlfriend

AGRA: A 30-year-old man - who came to his former girlfriend’s village to meet her four months after she was married - was caught, beaten up, tonsured and paraded at a village allegedly by the woman’s husband, his relatives and other villagers. On learning about his public humiliation, the woman allegedly tried to commit suicide. She is now being treated in a hospital.
The incident took place at Belaut village under Khandauli police jurisdiction in UP's Agra district on Saturday afternoon.
According to witnesses, the victim who hails from Kardani village under Sakrauli police jurisdiction in Etah district came along with his friend on a motorcycle to meet the woman.
Villagers became suspicious when they saw the duo making the rounds of the village on their motorcycle by hiding their faces with a helmet and masks. Later, the villagers stopped the duo and enquired about their identities. Soon, the woman’s husband came and identified one of the men.

“The woman’s husband and his relatives, along with villagers, assaulted the man and his friend. The victim claimed that he had come to meet the woman at her invitation as she was not happy with her marriage. Later, the woman’s husband tonsured the victim and paraded him through the entire village. Seeing the victim being humiliated in public, the woman attempted to commit suicide by electrocuting herself. The woman has been admitted in a private hospital,” he added.
Meanwhile, station house officer of Khandauli Prashant Tyagi said, “No one has given a written complaint in the matter, therefore no FIR has been lodged.”
