Most of the IT managers are inundated with cyber attacks coming from all directions and are struggling to keep up due to a lack of security expertise, budget and up to date technology, according to a new survey.

At least 81 per cent said their organization’s cybersecurity budget (including people and technology) is below what it needs to be, said the survey by global cybersecurity firm Sophos.

According to the survey, Indian IT managers reported that 32 percent of their team’s time is spent on managing security and yet only eight per cent believe that they have a strong team in place to detect, investigate and respond to security incidents.

“Staying on top of where threats are coming from takes dedicated expertise, but IT managers often have a hard time finding the right talent or don’t have a proper security system in place that allows them to respond quickly and efficiently to attacks”, said Chester Wisniewski, Principal Research Scientist, Sophos.

The current technology is a major challenge for their organization. This lack of security expertise, budget, and up to date technology indicates, information technology managers are struggling to respond to cyber-attacks instead of pro-actively planning and handling what’s coming next.

This survey was conducted by Vanson Bourne, an independent specialist in market research, in December 2018 and January 2019. The survey polled 3,100 IT decision makers from mid-sized businesses in the US, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, UK, France, Germany, Australia, Japan, India, and South Africa.

Sophos protects nearly 400,000 organizations of all sizes in more than 150 countries from today’s most advanced cyber threats.
