MUMBAI: A four-month pregnant woman was stabbed to death near an autorickshaw stand in Ghatkopar on Saturday night. The victim, Meenakshi Chaurasia (20), a resident of Shivpuri chawl in Ghatkopar (east), was married to Brijesh Chaurasia, who runs a paan shop. The two had a love marriage in February this year.
Locals said that they spotted the woman, dressed in a red saree, lying near a bench on a foothpath (see pic), with blood around her neck, around 7am on Sunday. They informed the police who rushed to the spot. The body was sent for an autopsy to Rajwadi Hospital.
A police officer said, "She left her home around 10pm on Saturday saying she was going to see her father who lived in Matunga. There were eight stab wounds around her neck and head."

"Since there are no CCTV cameras in the vicinity of the murder spot, it's difficult to find out what exactly happend. We have rounded up some suspects and are questioning them," said the officer.
"As her mangalsutra and mobile phones were found, we are ruling out the possibility of theft. It is clear the intention of the killer was to murder her. We are recording statements of her husband and other family members, and will reach a conclusion soon," he added. The police said it is too early to comment on who might have killed the woman. They added they were working in several teams to solve the case.
