‘Ministers must visit their areas frequently to ensure problems were resolved’

Ludhiana: The members of Feroze Gandhi market association have demanded that there should be at least one camp office of ministers in the city, this will ensure that people’s grievances are addressed. The members of the association represented to CM Amrinder Singh urging him to take steps in his direction. Citing the example of the recent visit of local bodies minister, Brahm Mohindra to the office of Ludhiana Improvement Trust, located in the Feroz Gandhi Market, the members said that his visit ensured that the accumulated water was drained out and illegal rehdi were removed. The members said that it the trafiic which is otherwise chaotic was regulated in the market. The members of the association said that if the ministers keep on visiting the city frequently, the civic officials will ensure everything is streamlined and as a result people will get desired relief.

The chairman of association, Colonel (retd) Harjap Singh claimed that there was a massive problem of water logging in the market and officials were aware of the situation but none took cognizance or tried to bring any solution. He claimed that the parking lots were full of water and the road toward the court complex was the worst affected. Singh said that officials of the civic body had a very causal approach toward the problems being faced by the people of the market place. He said that through the vends were removed and the traffic situation was not as chaotic, but it would again be the same of Monday.
President of association, PS Gill said changing ministers was not the solution there was a need to change the causal approach of officials towards public issues. He said only verbal orders were issued, but there were no follow up action as even lack of funds. He said a serious introspection was required and now Punjab cannot be governed from offices at Chandigrah. He said that ministers and officers should be asked to move in the areas of their departments and ensure that public issues were sorted out.
