Vadodara: In wake of the incident of a ride collapsing at Kankariya in Ahmedabad, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) got rides inspected at Kamatibaug and the AATAPI Wonderland theme park in Ajwa. The rides were closed for a better part of the day at both the locations in wake of the development.
VMC officials asked the contractor managing the rides at Kamatibaug and the public-private partnership (PPP) partner of the civic body at AATAPI Wonderland to discontinue the rides on Monday till their inspection was completed. Those managing the rides were asked to inspect the rides themselves and ensure that there were not technical problems. They were also asked to give reports regarding the inspection to the civic body.
In-charge parks and gardens director V R Shikhaliya said that the civic body had asked the contractors to examine the rides ahead of the Gauri Vrat festivities as the rides are used in large numbers by girls during the festival time. “But we wanted it do be done again to be on the safer side,” he said.
Shikhaliya said that the rides at Kamatibaug are examined and certified every year by a chartered engineer. Also, the rides are closed on every Thursday for maintenance and are checked thoroughly. The civic body has been guarded after two persons were injured when a basket of the Octopus ride at the Garden collapsed in 2016.
Shikhaliya added that the rides at AATAPI Wonderland were also examined by the operators. “They have a system of doing so daily and maintaining a register for each ride,” he said.
