Ludhiana: Residents continued to enjoy the weather on Sunday as rain lashed the city throughout the day, pushing the maximum temperature down to 26.6°C, which is seven degrees below normal. The rainfall in the city between 8.30am and 5.30pm on Sunday was recorded at 39mm.
Even the weather remained dry from Saturday noon to night, it turned cloudy again in the late night hours. On Sunday, residents woke up to rain that continued intermittently throughout the day. As per the meteorological department, rainfall in city from 8.30am on Saturday to same time on Sunday was recorded at 16mm. The day temperature in city on Saturday was recorded at 30.8°C, which was three degrees less than normal.
Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in the city on Sunday was recorded at 22.9°C, which is three degrees less than normal but two degrees more than what was on Saturday. Meanwhile, the city recorded high relative humidity of 92% on Sunday, which is about 7-10% more than normal.
With city residents enjoying the pleasant conditions in Ludhiana, the Met department prediction has more good news for them so far as weather is concerned. A Met department official in Chandigarh said weather forecast for next three to four days is ‘generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers’. He added that both day and night temperatures during these days were expected to remain below or around normal.
The Met department website has predicted the day temperature to fall to 30°C till Tuesday, followed by an increase to 33°C till Friday. It suggests that the minimum temperature is expected to fall to 22°C till Wednesday followed by rise to 25°C till Saturday.
“Weather in the city in the last about a week has been wonderful as rain has been frequently occurring in Ludhiana. Today, it was super Sunday for us as it was raining in the city throughout the day. For some time in the afternoon we even switched off fans as we started feeling cold,” said Sushil Jain, a trader in Civil Lines here.
Homemakers had a busy day in view of the rainy conditions as they had to make some special treats for the day. “In the morning I had to make channa bhatura and masala tea as my family members asked for it because it being a rainy day. Also for lunch I cooked rajma chawal, which was again their choice on such days. It felt wonderful to fulfil their food demands,” said Harpreet Kaur of Pakhowal road.
