Meenakshi temple to remain closed for 11 hours in view of lunar eclipse

MADURAI: The Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple and its 22 satellite temples in Madurai would remain closed from 6.30pm on July 16 in view of the lunar eclipse.
Temple authorities said that the lunar eclipse will occur between 1.32am and 4.30am on July 17. As a result, devotees would not be allowed into the temple from 6.30pm. Special pujas and abhishekams would be performed to the deities after the eclipse ends at 4.30am on Wednesday, and the doors of the temple would be opened at 5.30am. The similar schedule would be followed at the Thiruparankundram Subramania Swamy, Palani Dhandayuthapani, Ramanathaswamy in Rameswaram, and other temples as well.
