VADODARA: They were sitting in the compound of their house and enjoying the cool breeze in
Meghdoot Society at
Karelibaug on Sunday evening. But the Mehta family had a shock of their life when they saw a
monitor lizard crawling just few metres away from them. Before the family members could react, the lizard crawled in their home and disappeared.
"We got a call from the family following which I rushed to the spot. I tried to look for the monitor lizard everywhere in the house but it was untraceable. The family members said that the lizard had entered the kitchen through an open door," said
Rinav Kadam, volunteer of Gujarat Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA).
Kadam looked for the lizard in the kitchen but couldn’t find it. After over an hour’s search, he checked the domestic flour mill in the kitchen. "The lizard had entered the mill and was stuck inside. After about 15 minutes of rescue operation, we brought it out," Kadam added. The lizard had ventured out of the
Vishwamitri River that is located right behind Meghdoot Society. The Mehta family said that it is for the first time that they have seen a monitor lizard in their area.
Monitor lizards are known to move fast on the ground and if cornered some of them can bite too. These lizards are very shy and prefer to be away from human habitat.
