PATNA: In a shocking incident, a man burned his wife’s body, including private parts, with a soldering iron in Sheikhpura district on Saturday evening. The husband has been arrested, police said on Sunday.
Malti Devi (20) of Sahsaram under the Ariyari police station area is undergoing treatment at the local primary health centre. Police said Malti’s husband Nageshar alias Nanhe Bind (22) was not happy with her appearance and used to harass her on one pretext or the other. On Saturday, he confined Malti in a room and gave electric shock on her body, including private parts, with a soldering iron.
Ariyari SHO Pramod Kumar said the woman was rescued by the police after being informed by some local residents, who swung into action after hearing the screams of the victim. Malti and Nanhe got married only three years ago. Nanhe is a daily wager, he added.
An FIR was lodged against Nanhe on the victim’s statement. He has been booked under relevant sections of the Domestic Violence Act and Sections 323 (voluntary causing hurt), 324 (voluntary causing hurt with a weapon), 341 (wrongful restraint), 308 (commit culpable homicide) and 498 (cruelty to married woman) of IPC.
The investigating officer said Malti’s husband started harassing her ever since she came to his house after ‘gauna’ (second marriage). “She initially couldn’t muster courage to protest her husband’s cruelty,” the officer quoted Malti as saying.
On Saturday, her cries for help drew the attention of some neighbours, who informed the police over phone. She was finally rescued and admitted to the local PHC.

A doctor attending to Malti at the Ariyari PHC said there were multiple burn injuries on her body, including private parts. She is in a state of shock after the incident, the doctor said, preferring anonymity.
On getting information, her parents from Kashichak under Fatuha subdivision in Patna district rushed to Sheikhpura.
