HYDERABAD: A 23-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly sexually assaulting and impregnating his 16-year-old fiancée in Sangareddy district. The girl underwent abortion on Saturday and the foetus was sent for DNA test. A rape case was registered against the offender. Police have also arrested the girl’s parents.
The minor, who had completed class 10, was forced to get engaged to the 23-year-old man by her parents in June. However, after the information reached police, the family was counselled not to perform her marriage.

“The girl’s mother had died a few years ago. She has been staying with her father, stepmother and their children. She was sexually assaulted by the groom, who would visit her with the girl’s parent's permission. He reportedly sexually assaulted her thrice,” a police source said.
On June 11, the girl managed to escape and reached out to a women and child welfare department official through the helpline and disclosed about her parents trying to get her married off. She was shifted to a state-run shelter home.

“On June 21, when district welfare officer visited the shelter home, noticed her weak and asked the in-charge to take her to the clinic for a check-up. After a visit to the doctor, the officials discovered that the girl was pregnant,” Sangareddy deputy superintendent of police P Sridhar Reddy.
Following the test, the girl revealed that she had been sexual assaulted and a case was registered.
