FALL RIVER — A motorcyclist has been hospitalized following a crash in the median of I-195 near the Westport line Monday afternoon.

According to State Trooper James DeAngelis, the motorcyclist, who has yet to be identified, was traveling westbound on the interstate near the Route 24 on-ramps just before 4:30 p.m. when the crash occurred. DeAngelis did not specify what might have caused the crash nor did he comment on the extent of injuries the motorcyclist sustained. He said personnel from Fall River's police and fire departments responded to the scene following a 911 call.

Emergency workers initially had difficulty finding the motorcyclist as the median was overgrown and heavily wooded, DeAngelis said. It was only after the motorcyclist began making 911 calls on his cell phone that he was located.

DeAngelis said the motorcyclist was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
