Nagpur: Swaroop Lokhande, a chain-snatcher who was booked under Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (
MCOCA) in the past, was nabbed after prolonged efforts by Ajni police this week. With Lokhande’s arrest, police now expect to detect at least a dozen of chain-snatching cases in the city.
With the rise in chain-snatching cases, different units of crime branch and various police stations were after Lokhande. It’s learnt, Lokhande was trapped from a friend’s place.
In 2013, Lokhande had hit the headlines after having escaped from the Hudkeshwar police station leading to the suspension of an officer.
Lokhande, known as a fast bike rider, would often give cops a hard time while chasing him. In the past, he had committed crimes within the limits of Hudkeshwar, Dhantoli, Ajni, Sonegaon, Sitabuldi and other police stations.
Police had in the past even arrested Lokhande’s mother Mangala for helping him in the crimes.
