Campaign to be held in two talukas in Pune district

Pune :Taking into consideration the depleting ground water levels in the state, Department of Water Resources is organising Jal Shakti Abhiyan- a water conservation campaign. Union Joint Secretary Sushma Shete in a meeting at the collector’s office said that the Abhiyan started in the state from July 1. 

Shirur and Purandar talukas of Pune district were the first areas to implement the Abhiyan - a campaign by Department of Water Resources. Shete has asked all departments to work in coordination for making the campaign a success.

During the meeting, District Collector Naval Kishore Ram said that this campaign will be implemented jointly by the Central and State Government. The main aim of the campaign is to overcome water crises by conservation of rainwater. 

To prepare a plan to implement this campaign, Shete along with the District Collector and other officials visited Morachi Chincholi and Kanhur Mesai villages of Shirur taluka. They learned about the villagers’ problems related to storage, maintenance, and water conservation.
