PUNE: The Economics Offenses’ Wing (EOW) of Pune police on Saturday nabbed two office bearers of a Mumbai-based finance firm for cheating a city-based company to the tune of Rs2.02crore by promising loan of Rs45crore.
A case of cheating and forgery was lodged with the Alankar police station. The officials of EOW conducted an investigation into the case.
Deputy commissioner of police (EOW) Sambhaji Kadam said that police arrested Arvind Maniram Tiwari from
Andheri and Durgesh Santosh Shukla from Santacruz, Mumbai. “Both are directors of a finance company — STG Group — in Mumbai,” he said.
A team headed by assistant commissioner of police (EOW) Nilesh More arrested the two from a spot in Mumbai.
Kadam said that police have booked the other two directors of the finance company in the cheating and forgery case.
The crime took place between June 2018 and July 8 this year. The Pune-based company’s director, Audumbar Karande (36), lodged a complaint with the police on July 8 in this regard.
According to the complaint, Karande’s company was looking for cheap and easy loan from the financial institution to expand their business activity. The suspects contacted Karande and said their company would provide cheap and easy loan to him but asked for 4% commission. Following this, the Karande’s company and suspects entered into an agreement and Karande’s company paid a commission of Rs2.02 crore.
The two suspects prepared a fake agreement, Kadam said. They kept on promising to disburse the loan of Rs45crore to Karande’s company but failed to do so.
Karande approached the police after realising that the agreement was fake, Kadam said.
