Construction of check dams inaugurated

Tirupur: Jal Shakthi Abhiyan team led by economic advisor for panchayat raj ministry Sujtha Sharma inspected water conservation projects that are being implemented in various places in the district.
Sujatha Sharma also inaugurated construction of a few check dams, farm ponds and rain harvesting systems in Avinashi and Kundadam.
The team interacted with a few non-governmental organizations that are into protecting environment. The team was told many industrial units were implementing various water conservation projects, including recycling of sewage water and natural cooking gas using waste. The team appreciated those efforts.
The team said the five objectives of Jal Shakthi Abhiyan campaign were rain harvesting and water conservation, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, groundwater recharge through unused borewells, watershed development, and intensive afforestation. tnn
