Jamia VC meets tribal affairs minister for setting up north-east central research and resource centre

NEW DELHI: Jamia Millia Islamia authorities met Arjun Munda, union minister for tribal affairs for setting up a tribal research centre in the university on Thursday. Professor Najma Akhtar, vice chancellor, Jamia requested Munda to provide funds for setting up North-East Central Research and Resource Centre for Tribals and people in the region.
She informed the minister that Jamia will try to highlight the issues of tribal in the North East through research and studies as they are more or less confronted with the same issues as that of minorities.
Akhtar briefed Munda about the centre for the North East Studies and Policy Research already functioning which is dedicated for the study of issues related to the North East with emphasis on various aspects of tribal communities in the region.
The VC had earlier called on Ramnath Kovind, the President of India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking their support for the development of the university including setting up of a medical college-cum-hospital.
She had also met the HRD Minister. Ramesh Pokhriyal when he had called a meeting of VCs of all central universities last month.
