Vadodara: Judiciary in Vadodara achieved a feat when it disposed of highest number of cases in the state during national lok adalat held on Saturday. The courts in Vadodara disposed of 27,943 cases followed by Ahmedabad at around 23,285 cases and Surat 13,323 cases.
Of over 50,000 cases that the courts had taken up for disposal during the lok adalat, 16,413 criminal cases, 3,808 cases of Negotiable Instruments Act, 517 cases of bank recoveries, 348 cases of electricity bill payments, 291 criminal compoundable cases, 310 cases of matrimonial disputes, 207 cases of motor accident claims, 43 cases related to land acquisition disputes, 13 labour dispute cases and 5,993 other cases were disposed. With the disposal, amount to the tune of Rs 65.6 crore was also awarded to the litigants.
“Besides the judicial officers, court staff, lawyers, we had received immense support from the district collector, city police commissioner, superintendent of police, NGOs and law students,” said principal district judge Dr A C Joshi.
The district legal services authority (DLSA) had joined hands with the police department to serve summons to the litigants so that they appear before the court and participate in the lok adalat. “The number of cases that we disposed during the lok adalat would have taken two to three years so we are considering this lok adalat as a success,” said secretary of DLSA Aasutos Raj Pathak.
